Safety in the Body Skills It is critical for clients to be able to feel safe in the body before and while processing any emotional content. This service is designed to start you in the most appropriate place to experience success in therapy. There are multiple ways that we can work to establish safety and we work together to find the skills that are best suited for you.
Emotion Regulation This refers to the ability to be able to change the intensity of what one is feeling in the moment, or to be able to change the emotion in the moment altogether. This service draws upon regulation skills from DBT, emotional distancing skills from EFT, and resourcing skills from EMDR and somatic therapies to offer clients a strong set of options to master this ability in order to be able to manage one's goals and maintain stability in the process of healing.
Reprocessing Interventions There are many ways to address past experiences that are affecting our current functioning and we can draw on bilateral stimulation, emotion focusing, chair work, somatic integration, even hypnosis to process the internal experience of those events that have created pain or blocks in life. The goal, no matter the intervention, is to move us from a state of disempowerment to a state of agency. Some of us are more cognitive, others are more emotionally based and still others are more body based and energetically sensitive. The interventions are chosen with those differences in mind to help you access an experience of empowerment through healing the past. The ability to access safety and regulation skills is a precursor to exploring any of these interventions.
Reiki Healing and other CORE Modalities Sometimes we feel that we have reprocessed our traumas, and mastered our emotion regulation skills but something still feels out of alignment. This offering provides a point of exploration for you around energy healing. Reiki is being recognized as an effective complementary therapeutic tool for healing in both mental health and medical settings. It can be offered virtually or in person as a support to any level of healing - whether it be to assist in body safety and regulation or to access and alleviate stored energy from unprocessed or already processed emotions that need extra support to clear. Adolescent Treatment When treating adolescents it's doubly critical to provide safety and authenticity. When a teen comes into the therapeutic process they are often guarded and savvy. They want to know whether they can trust their therapist and whether that therapist will "get them". This involves a lot more than offering skills and although skills development may be a part of the process it is best delivered in an organic nondirective fashion. Confidentiality, openness about what needs to be shared with caregivers for safety needs to be clearly communicated and documented. An adolescent's access to a safe, confidential space in which they feel understood, validated and respected offers the foundation for them to develop the emotional regulation skills that allow them to thrive.
Parent Support Although adolescents have a legal right to confidentiality it is my priority to help my client communicate with their parent what their needs are for this stage of their development. In a nondetailed fashion and with client's written permission I may provide general insight, skills, and recommendations for scaffolding and accountability to parents who are looking for more hands on support to help their teen.
Family Treatment Whether adolescent or young adult, the stage of moving from being dependent to autonomous is wrought with a tug of war around our psychological need for independence. I provide an emotion-focused, family-based approach to helping families communicate their emotions and needs in a safe and productive manner. Through this process we accomplish communication around expectations, disagreements, resentments, unhealed wounds as well negotiations for present-focused solutions.
Group Offerings One of the great joys of working with the change process is experiencing each other in a group dynamic. The alchemy of a group is so special and has the power for deep transformation.
